About us
Postdoctoral researchers at the Marine Research Centre
CIM-Renova is a programme driven by researchers on competitive postdoctoral contracts (Ramón y Cajal, Xunta de Galicia, Juan de la Cierva, Talent Retention, etc.) who are developing their careers at the Marine Research Centre (CIM) of the Universidade de Vigo, on the Vigo or Ourense campus.
We are part of established research groups and are developing novel lines of research, with techniques and knowledge that can enrich the work of other teams. CIM-Renova was created so that these lines are recognised, grow and are shared. Our work is organised into four emerging research lines.
This is a collaborative and open initiative: we seek to add to existing groups in pursuit of shared progress, and we welcome new researchers holding a competitive postdoctoral contract.
Mission
To promote excellent marine research from the postdoctoral stage, bringing together the capabilities of its researchers, fostering postdoctoral leadership and supporting new research talent.
Vision
To be a stable and recognised community of postdoctoral research in marine sciences, integrated into CIM and open to collaboration with other centres, companies and institutions.
Objectives
To share knowledge, techniques and services with the whole CIM community, foster synergies and exchanges with other groups, support the research careers of early-career researchers and communicate their work inside and outside the university.
CIM-Renova

Who makes up CIM-Renova
Currently, 10 people with a competitive postdoctoral contract are part of the programme. We have organised ourselves into 4 emerging research lines, each led by one or two people. In the Research section, you can find out what they involve and the techniques and services we offer. Whoever leads an emerging line acts as a knowledge node: they share their experience, offer their techniques and services, and connect teams that may not have met before. If you have any suggestions or would like to propose a collaboration, please contact the programme coordination or the leads of the emerging lines:
Coordination:
-

Jorge Eiras Barca
Ramón y Cajal researcher. Environmental Physics Laboratory (EPhysLab), Ourense campus.
-

Diego Fernández Nóvoa
Xunta de Galicia postdoctoral researcher. Environmental Physics Laboratory (EPhysLab), Ourense campus.
-

Iria García Moreiras
Xunta de Galicia postdoctoral researcher. Marine and Environmental Geology (GEOMA, XM-2), Vigo campus.
Members:
-

Xurxo Costoya Noguerol
Ramón y Cajal researcher. Environmental Physics Laboratory (EPhysLab), Ourense campus.
-

Marisela Des Villanueva
Xunta de Galicia postdoctoral researcher. Environmental Physics Laboratory (EPhysLab), Ourense campus.
-

Carolina Gil Lozano
Talent retention researcher at the Universidade de Vigo. Geological Oceanography and Biogeochemistry (XM-1), Vigo campus.
-

Albenis Pérez Alarcón
Xunta de Galicia postdoctoral researcher. Environmental Physics Laboratory (EPhysLab), Ourense campus.
-

Rogert Sorí Gómez

-

Milica Stojanovic
Xunta de Galicia postdoctoral researcher. Environmental Physics Laboratory (EPhysLab), Ourense campus.
What we offer
In-person and virtual activities will be announced in the News section and through the CIM’s usual communication channels.
Our offer will adapt to the needs of CIM, so your suggestions are welcome. We propose organising different types of activities:
- Courses and seminars on transferable skills aimed at the whole CIM research community.
- Methodological workshops on databases, emerging techniques, etc.
- Webinars and informal sessions to foster synergies between groups and support joint proposals.
- Support for early-career researchers: sessions aimed at junior pre- and postdoctoral researchers to guide them in their scientific careers, build connections with senior staff and help them strengthen their CVs.
In addition, in the description of the CIM-Renova research lines you will find a list of the techniques and services offered by each line.
How to take part
We are open to new members: if you have recently joined CIM as a postdoctoral researcher funded by a competitive contract or fellowship, or you know someone who has, get in touch with us to join our programme and start strengthening your line of research.
The activities, services and techniques of CIM-Renova are aimed at the whole of CIM, from pre-doctoral students to senior researchers. If you have an idea, a technical need or would like to collaborate, write to us at cim.renova@uvigo.gal.
We will announce our activities in News.
